A self-described 'punk-ass art school student' and vocalist/keyboardist for acclaimed indie Electronic/ambient outfit Decoder Ring. She has flung herself into two new worlds simultaneously: she's moved to California and become a solo artist. Whether channelling our long-repressed terrors ('Trouble') or long-lost innocence ('We Will Not Grow Old'), her music evokes primal emotions, unblemished by pretense or cynicism and unashamed of cracking a smile occasionally. Lenka's fresh sensibility extends to every element of her music, as the whimsical, paper art, stoimated videos she creates.'It's a mood-enhancer,' she says of her record, 'I don't like it when people are depressed. I want to cheer them up.' | | | Product Details: | | | Audio CD Release Date:

Listening to this CD Just Makes Me HappyNov 17, 2008
By D. Summerfield Having a rotten day? Slip in this upbeat CD from Australian singer Lenka and get a little zing of pop music. This talented singer-songwriter has created a wonderful collection of hummable tunes -- there's really not a bad track on this album. I'm a middle-aged mom who usually sticks to show tunes, but this whimsical, thoughtful, cheerful album appeals to all my sing-along sensibilities. My teenage daughters love her, too.
I first heard of Lenka while watching last week's "Grey's Anatomy." Her addictive song "Trouble is a Friend" was played during the closing minutes of the show. I wrote down the name of the CD and ordered it immediately. I have been listening to it ever since. I just love the beat, I love the lyrics, I love the tunes. This is my kind of music. Can't wait to hear her next effort.

Pop Music Doesn't Get Much Better Than This.Mar 04, 2009
By Shallowguy I first heard of Lenka from the music video of the song "The Show." I thought that the song was decent and cute, but it didn't really grab me. Still, I decided to get this album.
After repeated listening over the past ten days, I can say that this is one really, truly great pop album. All eleven songs on this albums have nice melodies and are very enjoyable. I especially like "Trouble Is A Friend" and "We Will Not Grow Old."
In terms of sound, I think the mastering engineer (Ted Jensen) did a very good job. Lenka's voice is clear and lifelike. The CD is not too bright and has nice bottom ends.
If you are looking for songs with deep lyrics or complex construction, this album is probably not for you. However, if you enjoy pop music, you will hardly find a better album than this (if you do, please let me know). To me, this album is worth every penny (or cent). I would gladly pay ten times its price to buy it.

I Gave Lenka A 2nd Chance and I Was Not WrongApr 15, 2009

I first saw / heard Lenka on Nocturnal State on VH1. I thought that the song was kind of catchy but Lenka was much too bubbly for my tastes. I than saw her live at south by southwest and had a brand new opinion of her.
On the Show Lenka comes off as young upbeat sugary youthful artist who was too cute for her own good. However after listening to her whole cd and watching her live she has much more of a range than I gave her credit for. Her music is indeed uplifting and poppy but it also uplifting and provides a warming sensation when listening to it. Lenka is definatly a grown up and should not be thought of as a young popstar which was my first impression of her.
If you are looking for a new artist you will not go wrong with giving Lenka a try.

Just so good.Jun 26, 2009
By whit I really liked this cd by Lenka. It is bubbly and happy, but I can't the the tune of The Show out of my mind. I just pop it in in my car and go and I feel so floaty and good. I highly recommend this one to anyone who's just sick of angsty teenage boy music and wants something mellow. I also suggest Safe Trip Home.

Fantastic Debut!May 27, 2009

I'd picked up hearings of "The Show" on the radio, and was impressed by her catchy upbeat lyrics and voice. After watching her video for the song, I was even more impressed with the creative force behind her music. I now almost feel guilty that I got this CD for $8.99. It's worth more than that. There are a few songs that are less spectacular than others, but overall, even the slower, less catchy tunes can be listened to repeatedly without getting irritated. You owe it to yourself to listen to "Trouble is a Friend" - by far, the best song on the album, but there are so many other gems here, like "Knock Knock", "Dangerous and Sweet", "Don't Let Me Fall", and of course, "The Show". Hopefully her second release will be just as refreshing and sweet.
